If you’re drowning in unpaid bills and losing your sleep over unpaid debts, then it is time to conquer your fear and negotiate creditors to reduce your debts.

How to do negotiation

You can negotiate creditors by following the 5 steps mentioned below:

1. Prepare a budget: Based on your monthly income and expenses, you have to prepare a budget. You need to cut down some expenses on some minor things, like, consuming less beer or coke and need to show your creditors that you are eager to pay off your debt, with the extra amount of money you can afford.

2. Talk to your creditors: You need to make a phone call to your creditor and explain to him about your non-affordability to make payments towards the debts. You need to be polite and have to avoid any sort of confrontation. You will get nowhere if you have an aggressive attitude. If you are refused, wait for several days and try again.

3. Offer a lump sum: If you have some extra cash in your hand, you can offer that amount as a lump sum, if the creditor agrees to settle your debt and reduce your outstanding debt amount by 40-60%. If the creditor has authority, you can also request him to remove the negative statements from your credit report, after you and your creditor agree for a debt settlement.

4. Ask for payment plan: If you don’t have a lump sum amount, you can ask your creditor to make a payment plan that will be according to your affordability, until your debt is fully paid off. Be sure to make all the payments by check or by money order, so that you have proof of payment, if any dispute arises in the future.

5. Get written agreement: You should have a written agreement from your creditor about your settlement or payment plan, so that he cannot put pressure on you in the future and ask for more amount of money. Always make sure to keep records of every phone call, notes and correspondence letters with your creditor.

You need to be polite, realistic, specific and flexible while you negotiate with your creditors. You have to convince your creditor that, you have good intention of clearing off your debts and you are ready to compromise. You need to present a win-win situation, so that your creditor also gets satisfaction out of the deal. If you have honesty and persistency, you can pay off your debts in a short time.

A new credit card law with be enacted upon today by banks across the nation as they are required to make changes to their policies and credit card statments. Hopefully, borrowers will become more aware and responsible of their accounts while restricting banks from enforcing questionable charges to accounts.

Starting today, banks will not be allowed to change an interest rate whenever they would like. There will be a one year, or other specified amount of time, period where the interest rate cannot change. After that, if a payment is 60 days late an interest rate can change as long as the bank notifiest the borrower 45 days before the change will take place.

In the past credit card companies have also specifically targeted college students and issued them credit cards without checking the sustainability of their income. Now, cards cannot be given to anyone under the age of 21 unless they have a co-signer or have substantial proof of steady income. Banks are also restricted from handing out gifts near colleges or schooling related activities.

To read more about this new credit card law:

During this season of mass purchasing over half of Americans are purchasing their holiday gifts with credit cards. There are a few things that you should be aware of this holiday season to make sure that you use that credit card wisely so it doesn’t use you.

You probably are bothered every time you check an item out with an offer for a credit card from a certain store. They may sound like great deals giving you 10 – 15 % off your purchase, but what they don’t tell you is that overall you are loosing money with there insane interest rates and low limits. If possible, avoid using or signing up with store branded credit cards.

A lot of Americans have transitioned from going to the local store to make their holiday purchases to simply buying online. Make sure that when you buy online that you comparison shop and include shipping in your comparison price. Stores will often not show how much shipping will cost and when you think you are getting the best deal you may end up paying more after shipping is added to your bill. Another piece of advice is that you should be aware of online fraud stores that will offer insane deals for either no product or an off-brand product. Never purchase from a store that you don’t know is reliable or doesn’t have an https:// in the URL on the page where you enter your credit card information.

The last piece of advice for you is to make sure that you choose wisely from your current credit cards. After unwrapping all of your gifts, some people may desire to return items that weren’t purchased in the correct size or color. Some credit cards, such as American Express and some Visa cards, allow for up to a 90 day return policy. So if you don’t procrastinate your shopping the store return policy may have already expired and you might be relying on your credit card’s 90 day return. That is of course you didn’t buy something last year for them, because you are out of luck and it better be something they really wanted.

We hope you have a successful and stress-free holiday shopping experience this year.

Just the word credit makes us all cringe. In this economic crisis credit cards have developed such a negative stigma no one wants to be associated with them.

The truth is though credit cards have a lot of benefits. It is important for us all to recognize what these are use them to our advantage.

There are numerous cards out there which offer benefits and rewards to those who pay off their debts each month. Do you ever wonder where these companies get the funds to pay such rewards? I have really bad news. It is from each and every one of us that does not use our card wisely.

These companies bank on the hope that we will not pay off our debts and pay them interest so they offer these rewards as incentives to get their card. Well we should all prove them wrong and be in the small percent of people actually garnering success from our credit cards.

The trading of shares from the company formerly known as General Motors, Motor Liquidators, has been officially halted by FINRA, the industry’s self regulatory body. The trading was halted due to unstable trading and short selling that continued to take place, even though the company was just coming out of bankruptcy. The price of the shares surged up to 39% on Friday.

Many investors have been benefitting lately from the up and down market in the auto industry. They buy low and sell high, very quickly for a quick buck. It hasn’t been all that bad for those investors until now. They can’t buy more, can’t sell what they have, and some don’t know what they will do with their shares. Many investors thought that they were buying into the new GM that recently came out of bankruptcy, but they were really buying into the semi-dead GMGMQ.

Many investors, however, steered clear of GMGMQ and knew that the companies shares would not bring them any profit. MAny have been saying that the trading should have been halted weeks ago.

Good debt? There is such thing as good debt?

The answer to this question depends on your willingness to work. For most people, there is such a thing as good debt. For those same people, “bad debt” is also a term with a specific definition. Once you can distinguish between the two, you will see how you can start managing your finances in a positive way.

We all want the best things in our lives. We want to be happy, but we want to have an abundant life full of lots of material things as well. It is the American mindset. Unfortunately, this is the cause of a lot of really bad debt. When we go out and buy things that we don’t actually need, and we can’t really afford it, that is what bad debt is. We really need to watch out for this and minimize it as much as we can.

On the other hand, good debt has to do with things that will help us out in the future or provide necessities in our lives. When we go into debt in order to get a house or to get a car for transportation to work, this is a good debt. Make sure you are conservative with these things, however. You don’t need to have an extremely expensive car and house if you can’t afford to pay off the debt. Get something you can afford.

One other type of good debt is for student loans. It is said that a college degree increases your total lifetime income by $1 million. That is a wonderful investment.

In order to put this into perspective, read this story that recently came out about a woman who incurred over $60,000 in credit card debt over 20 years with nothing to show for it.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31325093/ns/business-personal_finance/

Once upon a time, in a land extremely close to home, there lived a man who had a lot of debt. He had once decided to go out and spend money he didn’t have by putting everything he bought toward credit. He liked to buy anything and everything he thought he needed and was all-too-often heard saying, “Put it on my card.”

This man seemed happy for a short time. He seemed to always have all the toys you could ever want. He had a nice home with nice cars and nice furniture and a nice boat. These things are all great and are wonderful to have, but the problem was that he didn’t have the money to pay for it all.

Slowly but surely, he watched as his debt grew bigger and bigger. The feeling that came with it was not a good one. He always had the thought in the back of his mind that he knew he needed to pay off his debts, but he didn’t know how. Every once in a while he could push away that thought and feeling, but it would always come creeping back. He was trapt.

The man liked all of his nice things, but knew he couldn’t pay for them, and eventually, his nice things had to be taken away. Since he did not own them and couldn’t pay for them, he was no longer allowed to use them.

Soon the man was very sad because he was left with much less than he started with. He kept repeating the same thought over and over again, “Why didn’t I listen to what was said on financialaccuracy.com?”

Everybody loves saving money. I’ve written a lot of blog posts about saving money, but I’ve just recently decided I should write a whole lot more about it. People need to know tips on saving money, and what they can do. Everything helps, no matter what situation you are in. So let me give you some tips today, alright?

First things first… if you are in debt right now, especially credit card debt or something like it, do what you can to get out right now! Debt can ruin everything from a family to a person. It is a killer. What can you do right now? Set goals. Scratch that. Set small, realistic goals. Be disciplined to reach your goals.

Nobody is going to make you put your financial life together. But there are people that will be there to help when you want to do it. It is your choice first, but I would strongly urge you to take care of your debt as soon as possible.

For tons of help with setting goals to pay off your credit card debt, Click Here.
